Garden of Eve Day Spa

For a decade now, Lynne Sinclair has owned and operated Eve By Nature, a day spa and related brand of beauty products, with the aim of providing residents of Canungra and beyond the relaxation and rejuvenation they so richly deserve. Lynne explains the brand, the business, and the beauty of a community like Canungra and its people.

How did Eve By Nature originally get started?
30 years ago, I started doing a Beauty Therapy and Massage course, and it evolved from that. I really love the whole day spa package. I produced our own skincare range, also called Eve By Nature, and that started because I’d been using a lot of products and I wanted a natural, Australian-made product with natural ingredients like quandong, lilly pilly, Davidson’s plum. I wanted it to be incorporated into skincare and then offered to our clients.

Where does the name come from?
My grandmother. Her name was Eve and, as a child, I used to think she had beautiful skin. When I decided with my two daughters to make a name for the products, I thought of Eve straight away. Also, Eve means new life and new beginnings. My two daughters are in the business with me, so we decided to call it Eve By Nature because we have nature all around us and our skincare is full of natural products. It’s actually produced in Queensland, in Brisbane by a biochemist. We came together and looked at what ingredients we wanted. We wanted everything to be totally natural. We’ve got a very simple range, it’s the cleanser, the exfoliation, a day cream and a night cream.

What services do you offer here?
We offer our packages, a three-hour or five-hour package. The three-hour package starts with a foot
scrub. We then do a full-body massage, a back scrub, a full facial and then the client has a choice of manicure, pedicure, or scalp treatment. The five-hour is the same, but it also involves use of the mineral heated pool and the spa, and includes lunch here as well. It’s a lot of couples, husbands and wives for anniversaries. There are also hens’ days out, mothers-to-be, girls’ day out packages. They’re all smaller varieties of one-hour packages each, and we have up to 10 clients at a time.

What facilities do you have?
We have the spa, the heated pool, and the lunch area. We have accommodation here as well, a little AirBnB so people can stay and make use of the whole area.

What are the benefits your services have for your customers?
It’s can be one-on-one, there’s no others at the same time. You come in and you’re in here solely with the people you came with. It’s a unique, individual and focused experience.

What’s the most popular service you offer?
Massage, one-hour massages, or the three-hour pamper package. People are either looking for a really quick fix for one hour, or they’re looking for relaxation and nurturing for the three hours. People just go right off to sleep! That’s what I’m all about, providing a service to make sure they walk out feeling rejuvenated, feeling as if their time here has been well-spent.

What goes into an average day here for you?
I’ve got enough room for three customers at once if they come in a group. If we have six or more, we alternate them so they can come out here, use the pool and spa, or have morning tea— we have high teas as well or they can bring their own food and drinks. Every day is different. I’m not bored!

Are there any notable trends in your clientele?
I think people are now looking for nurturing. They’re looking for touch, rejuvenation, relaxation, and it’s all about them, they want to destress. We’ve had people from as far afield as Brisbane, Stanfield, Warwick, Gold Coast. They
might stay in the accommodation here, have a massage and then do the walks through the national park.

As a local, what’s your opinion on the Canungra area and community?
Fabulous community, fabulous community spirit. We’ve had the fires, we’ve had the floods, we’ve had a lot, so everyone pulls together and helps one another. I think you’ll find that the Chamber of Commerce here is one of the best ones around. I’m also part of Turning Canungra Pink and Pink Assist. Pink Assist is all the money that is generated in the month of October for Turning Canungra Pink. Half of it goes down the coast to Cancer Council, and we keep a
percentage here. We have people who have got cancer in the area, so they get a package which is wonderful. I haven’t heard of that anywhere else. It’s brilliant. They get vouchers for housekeeping and cleaning and car maintenance
and petrol to take them to the hospital. That has been invaluable.

Do you have any personal favourite spots in the area?
Probably O’Reilly’s Vineyard, I like the cafes down here, I like the Little Blue House, I like the proximity to the walks and the national parks.

What’s been your most memorable moment here?
During the fires, everyone here was affected. I opened up the AirBnB for people to stay for free whose houses were threatened. It’s just a matter of being in touch with a lot of groups and a lot of people, and I think it’s a wonderful environment for that, for looking after each other. The expansion on my business has been word-of-mouth, so that’s been good. I think that’s the best way for a business to grow.

Is there anything else you would like to go on the record?

We have three wonderful therapists to call on, who have all had a lot of positive feedback from the people who have come in, a lot of good reviews. It’s been great. We are always looking for new topics for our blog. If there’s
