For those with an interest in spirituality, it’s no secret that Tamborine Mountain can more than provide. Susan Taylor, owner of Organik Temple, is just one person with extensive experience in these matters, and she’s more than happy to share.

How long have you been working in this business?
I’ve been reading for close to 30 years now, and I absolutely adore it. I couldn’t see myself doing anything else. My passion is for the healing journey that people have. I bring through the elements that they need to know, and work on right now, to help them move forward in life. That’s the psychic side of it. The salt lamps came into my life because they’re really beautiful healers, and then I added all the crystals and other things in the shop.
How did you get started?
I got given a pack of tarot cards and I dealt them out and I just saw visions in my head and that’s how I started. Then I went into the reiki healing, and combined them both. I’m a meditation teacher and workshop facilitator. That’s how I got into all this, and you just grow as you trust it more and more.
For those who might not understand, how would you describe what you do here?
Natural health and new age. It’s a healing centre, like a collective energy for everything to come as one, and then people can come in here and grab lots of tools to help them through life, like sage for cleansing and feathers and crystals to do all that. Everything in here has reiki done to it before I open the shop and it’s just absolutely amazing calming energy. People walk out feeling quite beautiful.
The mountain is something of a hub for spirituality. Why do you think that might be?
When everybody goes to the mountains they feel quite calm because of the waterfalls, and the energy’s totally different. It’s not as fast as the Gold Coast or Brisbane. You’re having an escape from the city where it’s calmer and they feel very relaxed when they leave, especially going to the Botanical Gardens or walking down to the waterfalls, they do have that spiritual feeling. It’s rejuvenating.
What goes into an average day working here for you?
On the weekends I do my readings, so for about three hours I read and I have a staff member serving then but if not, I’m just in the shop serving all day, just interacting with people, giving them messages, free healings, showing them what will heal them.
Are there any particular trends in your clientele?
Mostly women, between 20 and 45 are the trends of most of the customers that we get in here. The ones that come for readings are usually more mature, but I’ve had a big run on younger women that have been coming in because they want to start their own businesses and want to know if they’re on the right track. COVID has made them want to do their own thing and stay at home with their children. The young ones love the crystals. Children absolutely adore them.
Are you a local? What’s your opinion on the Tamborine Mountain area and community?
I’m from the Gold Coast, I’ve lived at Runaway Bay for 30 years. It’s pretty good, I’ve met quite a few of the locals, they’re very nice and friendly. The children are amazing, beautiful manners. But I just think it’s beautiful, it’s very clean and tidy and everybody is happy, that’s what I’ve found in most of the locals that I’ve talked to. Not many of them whinge or complain about things, they just get on with their lives and enjoy life on the mountain.
Is there anything you personally like to do in the area?
I love the Botanical Gardens, I promote that to every customer that comes in. I just think it’s a really beautiful place. Curtis Falls is quite close, and in the morning, I come here at 7 and I go for a walk around the block. It’s very peaceful, very quiet, and that’s what I love about it. Very tranquil energy.
What do you think Organik Temple really provides to the area?
It’s where they can get all their healing tools. It’s a one-stop shop where they can grab everything, and with the knowledge that myself and my staff have, we can enhance what they want to do in their life and give them that guidance.
What do you enjoy most about doing this?
Just helping people. My work is service, I call it. I love helping people and giving them direction in life so they can walk out of here and just have a new option in their life and their thought patterns, things like that.
