Tamborine Mountain is widely renowned for its spiritual community. There’s always somewhere for those seeking enlightenment to find their answers, and even as one door closes, another opens. Previous feature Village Witch Alchemy has moved on and in its place as of August 2023 is The Charmed Realm, operated by Bronywn and Kellie Tamihana. Kellie was happy to sit down and speak with us today about her experiences becoming part of the new age trade here on the mountain.

How did you get started with The Charmed Realm?
Village Witch Alchemy was here previously, and she decided to sell and move. We bought it from her and decided to make it an experience. The owners, one of whom is my sister, brought me into it for readings and healings and that kind of stuff and that’s how I got started. It started as an experience for the children. There’s not a lot of that up here. There used to be a fairy-themed place a while ago before Village Witch took over, and we wanted to bring a little bit of both into a collective experience.
Can you describe what you mean by “an experience”?
Just making the children have something they want to go to. If you’re a kid, you want to go to a place that makes you feel a little bit in touch with real childhood. From our point of view, we want kids to be able to use their imagination, to come and feel as if they’re at peace within this place. The kids are really good here.
For those who might not be familiar, can you describe what it is you offer here?
We offer soul speak conversations, which are readings via me having a conversation with you, reading and tapping in through tools of divination from the spirit, and we’re about to open up our healing room, where we’ll be doing chakra healing. We sell crystals, as well as fairy wings, wands, books, animal crystals.
There is a significant culture of spirituality on Tamborine Mountain. Why do you believe that is?
Mainly where it’s situated. People feel connected to nature. The spirits that are here, the things that they can tap into and vibrate off, the frequencies like the cicadas going. I think they just feel at peace in the smaller community. It’s natural for places that are more highly elevated.
Do you have a notable bestselling product or service?
Our customer service is A1 here. I’ve met some beautiful front-facing people up here on the mountain, but I think we do a little bit extra. We take the time to talk to people and dive into what they want. People feel like they’re welcomed in this place. The outside spot, the blossom tree, the fairy garden, I think that’s the selling point.
Have you noticed any particular trends in your clientele?
Parents, that’s a trend and people with different spiritual backgrounds. We’ve had every type of spiritual background. We still get some of the Village Witch clientele. We get some beautiful ones who share their stories from that time. That’s what we like, the storytelling aspect of it.
Are you a local? What’s your opinion on the Tamborine Mountain area and community?
No, we’re from the Gold Coast. But I love the mountain! It’s the perfect spot. Albatross from Jungle Ink Tattoo and Silke from Long Road Collective upstairs have been really helpful. They’ve been awesome to help us wrap our heads around retail on the mountain. Our landlords are amazing too. We got really lucky to have the people who are around us to teach us. They’re really proud of their community and their space. I like the nature, it’s stunning. The waterfalls are beautiful. It’s just such a cool little vibe up here. It’s a place that you come to get away from the rat race.
What do you think The Charmed Realm really provides to the area?
It’s uplifting. Have you anything like this anywhere else? Outside especially. And it’s only going to get better once we figure out what to do with the backyard! It’s different to what was, which was an iconic thing to people who were into that. I want this to be an iconic thing for people who are into this.
What do you enjoy most about doing this?
The readings, the healing, the talking to people, getting to know their stories and aligning with them. There’s a lot of damaged people out there with really good hearts and souls who just need someone to hear them, people of all walks of life. We also allow animals to come into the shop, as long as they’re well-behaved. We want them here! The Charmed Realm is not just about giving children and parents an experience, it’s also giving the animals an experience!
Is there anything else you’d like to go on the record?
You have to be careful what you read and who you read for. I’ve had to politely decline a lot of people. If you’ve had eight readings prior to coming to me and you’re wanting an answer when it’s never worked out that way, it would be irresponsible of me to take your money because you are vulnerable. That is not what we should do. I told this to one woman and she hated me for it, but her mum and her sister thanked me for it. There are some awesome readers out there who put care into their clients after the fact because they know they have to, since readings can be quite deep and bring things to the surface that people don’t want to confront. You have to be very careful when that person walks out that they’re okay. I don’t want anyone leaving this room worse or not getting anything out of it.
